The Will Ferrell show came to Camelback Ranch-Glendale last night in dramatic fashion with the crowd enjoying the theatrics and enthusiastically cheering on the popular actor-comedian.
Ferrell, who gained fame on Saturday Night Live and movies like Anchorman, made the rounds at Phoenix-area spring training sites yesterday as he played for 10 teams (five games) in one day for charity and an HBO special. He landed on the CR-G field via helicopter, was immediately inserted in the Sox lineup in the ninth inning as the DH, struck out on a 2-2 pitch (see below) and then was traded to the Giants and entered the game as their catcher.

Stay Classy, White Sox Fans
Actor/comedian Will Ferrell will DH for the Sox today in the team’s 6:05 p.m., CT game against the San Francisco Giants at Camelback Ranch-Glendale. Ferrell is participating in a once-in-a-lifetime role for the lifelong baseball fan, as production begins on a new special from Funny Or Die, in partnership with Major League Baseball, to air exclusively on HBO later this year.
Dedicating today’s project to the fight against cancer, Ferrell also is honoring the historic feat by Oakland’s Bert Campaneris five decades ago by playing every position on the field and maybe some off the field for 10 different teams in the same day.
Ferrell’s goal is to honor Campaneris while also helping organizations dedicated to fighting cancer, including Cancer for College. Formed in 1993, Cancer for College is a charity that helps individuals adversely affected by cancer realize their dream of a college education.
An important part of the fund-raising efforts will be game-used memorabilia from Ferrell’s journey across the five ballparks that will be auctioned online later in the year on MLB.com with proceeds being donated to Cancer for College as well as Stand Up To Cancer, a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research. MLB is the founding donor of Stand Up To Cancer.
Ferrell’s historic day will be chronicled in the exclusive HBO special which will air later this year and also feature major-league players, managers, coaches, executives and fans. Fans can follow along live and on-demand throughout the day across MLB Network, MLB.com, whitesox.com and all the official social media accounts of MLB and the White Sox.
