A Pitching Gem and a Milestone Homer = Five Straight Wins

Last Night’s Highlights
Miguel Gonzalez tossed 8.1 scoreless innings and Todd Frazier joined a select fraternity of White Sox sluggers by belting his 40th homer of the season as the Sox won their fifth game in a row with a 1-0 decision over the Rays at U.S. Cellular Field.
Gonzalez, who survived two rain delays, gave up just three hits and struck out five in a simply brilliant performance. He finished his season with 11 quality starts in his last 13 outings and a 2.72 ERA and 51 strikeouts during that period. David Robertson finished it in the ninth with one pitch. He induced a double play and got his 37th save.
Frazier became the seventh player in White Sox history to hit 40 home runs in a season. The others were Hall of Famer Frank Thomas (five times), Paul Konerko (twice) and Adam Dunn, Albert Belle, Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome.
Todd is now only two shy of the 100-RBI mark with 98. He also extended his hitting streak to 12 games, batting .391 with five doubles, four homers, eight RBI and 13 runs scored during those contests.
Enjoy Gonzalez’s gem and Frazier’s 40th.
Quote of the Day
Rays skipper Kevin Cash on Gonzalez’s performance:
“Really gutsy performance by Miguel Gonzalez. It was pretty impressive with the hour delay to come back out there and be real efficient. He did a real good job of not really overpowering, but just mixing speeds. He had the cutter and the two-seamer going. A couple of changeups and breaking balls in there. Got a lot of early outs. Just very efficient.”
