Ranaudo Impresses; Sale, Sox Go For Series Win
Thursday, July 28, 2016
White Sox vs. Cubs at Wrigley Field (7:05 p.m. CT, WGN) in the finale of the four-game Crosstown Cup Series. Having won two of the first three, the Good Guys are looking for a series win. Starting Pitchers: LHP Chris Sale (14-3, 3.18) for the Sox, RHP John Lackey (7-6, 3.75) for the Cubs.
Last Night’s Highlights
Despite last night’s 8-1 loss to the Cubs, the White Sox had something to celebrate. Making his first appearance for the Sox, Anthony Ranaudo (see photo above and click on link below) distinguished himself both on the mound and at bat.
Ranaudo had a no-hitter entering the sixth inning and in the end tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on only two hits. If that weren’t enough, he collected his first professional hit, a solo homer in the fifth inning, that gave the Sox a 1-0 lead. Ranaudo was previously hitless with five strikeouts in seven big-league plate appearances.
Anthony became the first American League pitcher to hit a home run this season and the first Sox pitcher to homer since Mark Buehrle, who did it on June 14, 2009 at Milwaukee.
Quotes of the Day
Ranaudo on his big night:
“Yeah, that was definitely cool, definitely something I’ll remember the rest of my life. The way the game kind of turned, that kind of took a bad turn for us. Definitely a great experience. The atmosphere was electric, and I thought we played really well for most of the game.”
Robin on Ranaudo:
“He had it going tonight. The kid was fantastic. Not only pitching, but swinging the bat for us, too, so a good night for him. Really the only blips on it are a couple of home runs. It’s a tough way to go knowing that he pitched that well, but there are some dangerous bats over there, and he found a couple of them.”
Starting tomorrow night, the White Sox begin a three-game weekend series against the Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Tomorrow night (7:10 p.m. CT, CSN). Starting Pitchers: LHP Jose Quintana (8-8, 2.97) for the Sox, RHP Ricky Nolasco (4-8, 5.40) for Minnesota.
