Five Former White Sox on Golden Era Ballot

Late last week, The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced its final 10 candidates for the “Golden Era Ballot,” the results of which will be announced on December 8 at Baseball’s Winter Meetings in San Diego. Included among the finalists this year are five former White Sox players:  Dick Allen, Ken Boyer, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso and Billy Pierce.

Golden Era finalists were selected by the BBWAA-appointed Historical Overview Committee.  Eligible candidates included managers, umpires, executives and long-retired players whose significant career impact was realized during the 1947-72 time period.  The Golden Era was last considered for induction in 2011.

A committee of 16 will vote on each of the five finalists, and any candidate receiving 12 or more votes will be enshrined in Cooperstown’s Class of 2015 next July.
